QA Engineer (Java)

About the Job 

Akamai is seeking an outstanding Software Development Engineer in Test (QA Engineer) to be part of  the Platform Data Interfaces team. You will be part of a global team and work closely with various  stakeholders to support good quality practices and build integration and system automated tests. The  goal is to ensure quality code releases that are highly resilient, scalable and performing optimally on our  state-of-the-art microservices infrastructure.  

About the Team 

The Data Interfaces team builds the foundational applications and APIs that enable our users – Akamai  customers, partners and employees to visualize, manage and configure their Akamai data, including  real-time feeds and aggregated reports. We also build the underlying software frameworks used by  groups across the company to simplify the implementation of new and specialized data applications. 

Data Interfaces works closely with the Data Engineering team responsible for processing and storage of  Akamai’s data, and we form together the Platform Data Experience (PDX) group. PDX builds some of the  largest data systems in the world today, processing over 100 million events per second. Our users look  to us to transform this massive data stream into crisp insights to support their mission-critical decisions.

Responsibilities 

• Effectively translates design documents, change requests, and related materials into test  strategies & test plans. 
• Provide good estimates for sizable components even in dynamic situations when chasing a  moving target. 
• Participate in design and code reviews, software maintenance releases, and documentation of  test cases and results. 
• Building/harnessing existing testing tools and automated testing frameworks written in Java.
• Use a variety of tools and techniques to quickly find defects. 
• Drive test efforts for major releases or within Agile sprints. 
• Be involved in functional (integration, system) and non-functional (usability, performance,  security) testing of Akamai’s products.
• Develop new approaches to solve problems identified during Quality Engineering activities;  Influence development teams with regards to prioritizing testability and operationalization  aspects of the modules; collaborate with team members on testing activities. Identify  opportunities for code optimization or design changes that will prevent defects and lower  maintenance.

Basic Qualifications 

• Demonstrate effective programming skills and understanding of Object Oriented Programing,  Data Structures and Algorithms. 
• Very good command of Java programming or at least one scripting language.
• Extensive experience with test automation framework development. Experience with JS is a  plus. 
• Experience testing SOAP/REST based API interfaces both manually and automated.
• Good command of Selenium WebDriver and TestNG, including Page Object design patterns and  Selenium Grid configurations.  
• Understand Software Engineering principles and networking principles. 
• Good knowledge of Internet technologies: RESTful Web Services and HTTP proxies, HTTP and  HTTPS Protocols, web servers and databases (SQL) and how to test them. 
• Great command in different QA Methodologies (black-box, white-box and gray-box) for both  web UIs and backends, both manually and automated. 
• Extensive experience in developing test strategies, risk assessment and ability to balance needed  timeline and quality. 
• Experience in performance test and benchmarking concepts. 
• Passion for finding defects and breaking things is a must. 
• Fluency in English.
